The "Turtle Trails" talk will educate the audience on the life of a sea turtle, bring up some little known facts and interesting history, talk about the obstacles they face, and explain the sea turtle nest program. The audience will learn how many different species of sea turtles there are in the world and which ones may be found here in Florida. I will also have some KB Citizen Science swag to give away!

LOCATION:  Near Pavilion D-18 by the seawall.

FREE for MEMBERS. $10.00 Donation for Non-Members. Park Entry fee required. Payment methods on site: ZELLE, VENMO, cash, check, on-line donation portal.

Rumya Sundaram is the Director of Environmental Science and Operations Manager at the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, and also the Senior Grant Administrator for the Coral Futures Laboratory at UM-Rosenstiel. She has a strong commitment to fisheries management, conservation, and toxicology research, and has specialized primarily in aquatic biology for the last ~17 years.

She has substantial experience in management of marine science initiatives, environmental education project administration, ecosystem evaluation, and public outreach. Rumya previously worked as a fisheries biologist in Northern Indiana, then subsequently moved to Washington DC as a White House Intern with the National Ocean Council under the White House Council of Environmental Quality, followed by research work for the Nature Conservancy in Miami.

Rumya has run the Key Biscayne Citizen Science Project for 9 years, taught online classes at Denver University on the basic science of climate change, and also volunteers at Bill Baggs State Park as a sea turtle nest evaluator. She holds a Bachelor or Arts in Studio Art and Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences both from Indiana University, and a Master of Professional Science in Fisheries Management and Conservation and Master of Science in Ecosystem, Science and Policy both from University of Miami.
